The Pharos Trust is delighted to support a recital with cellist Alexander Chaushian and Yevgeny Sudbin at the piano, which is taking place at the Wigmore Hall in London, on 3rd December 2007 at 7:30pm. The programme includes works by Weinberg, Beethoven, Schumann and Shostakovich.
Alexander Chaushian, cello
Alexander Chaushian studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School with Melissa Phelps and from 1995 to 1999 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London as a student of Oleg Kogan. From 1999 to 2001, Chaushian performed extensively as part of the Kempf Trio, holding a fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Since 2003 he had been pursuing advanced studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin with the late Boris Pergamenschikow and later David Geringas, graduating with distinction in 2005.
He has received numerous prizes, including the Pierre Fournier Award and the third prize in the 12th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Chaushian has performed recitals in many festivals such as the Harrogate Festival in England, the Kuhmo International Festival in Finland, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, and the Montpellier Festival and has appeared with many ensembles including the London Mozart Players and the Philharmonia Orchestra in London and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. From 2002 until the present he has acted as the artistic director of the Orpheus & Bacchus Festival in Bordeaux, France. Recent solo concerts include a critically acclaimed recital at the Wigmore Hall; a highly successful debut at the Suntory Hall, Japan; a debut at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra; concert with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Barbican.
Yevgeny Sudbin, piano
Born in St
Petersburg in 1980, Yevgeny Sudbin displayed exceptional musical talents from an
early age and studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory. He continued his
studies in Berlin and then London
with
Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music, additionally attending the
International Piano Foundation at Lake Como, Italy.
Sudbin has performed extensively throughout the world and many of his
performances having been broadcast on radio and television. He has appeared with
several of the world’s most distinguished orchestras, and performed at venues
such as the Musikhalle, Hamburg, the Gewandhaus, Leipzig and Konzerthaus,
Berlin; the Salle Gaveau, Paris; the Sala Verdi, Milan; and London’s South Bank
Centre and Wigmore Hall. He has performed at music festivals and is a frequent
participant at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland where his most recent recital
received enthusiastic reviews.
