The Pharos Trust continues its Autumn / Winter 2007 Concert Series with a chamber music evening with the Lendvai Trio on Thursday 13 December 2007 at 8:30pm, at the PASYDY Auditorium in Nicosia. The artists will also give two educational concerts for students in Nicosia as part of the Trust’s Music Education Programme, organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture.

 

Founded in 2004, the award winning Lendvai String Trio perform regularly at major concert halls in Europe such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Diligentia in The Hague and the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room in London. In 2005 the trio won awards from the Kirckman Concert Society and the Worshipful Company of Musicians which respectively led to their debut recital as well as a subsequent recital at Wigmore Hall in 2006.

    

Between 2004 and 2006 the trio held one of the prestigious Leverhulme Chamber Music Award Fellowships at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where they studied with David Takeno. They are regularly invited to perform at festivals throughout Britain, Holland and Sweden, and have also given concerts in Germany, Austria, France and Italy. The trio has a continuous collaboration with the Holland Music Sessions New Masters on Tour and has had performances broadcast live on BBC 3 and Dutch Radio 4/Avro. 2007 will be an exciting and eventful year featuring a debut concert at Nybrokajen 11 in Stockholm in April as well as returning to Wigmore Hall for another recital in July. Other highlights are concerts in Warsaw, Riga as well as in Holland and Cyprus. In 2008 the trio will collaborate with pianist Martin Sturfält giving a tour of Sweden promoted by Rikskonserter.

 

Dutch violinist Nadia Wijzenbeek, is rapidly establishing herself as one of the most versatile and sought-after violinists of her generation, giving concerts as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. She regularly appears in major concert halls in Europe, such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Royal Albert Hall and the Wigmore Hall in London and the Rudolpinum in Prague. Nadia won numerous awards and was recently selected as a ”New Master on Tour&rdquo by Holland Music Sessions, a Young Concert Artists by ”Making Music&rdquo and, as a member of the Aronowitz Ensemble as a BBC New generation artist.

 

Swedish violist Ylvali Zilliacus is enjoying an international and versatile chamber music career. Alongside the trio she plays regularly with Uppsala Chamber Soloists and the pianist Karin Haglund. She is also the principal violist of the period instrument ensemble English Concert who, with artistic director Andrew Manze, record for Harmonia Mundi and tour in Europe, Asia and the USA. Ylvali studied at the Royal College of Music in London with Simon Rowland-Jones where she won the Cecil Aronowitz viola competition and was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma with distinction. For 2002/03 Ylvali studied in Berlin with Tabea Zimmermann and at the Tanglewood Music Centre in the US thanks to scholarships from the English Speaking Union and the German Academic Exchange Service (D.A.A.D.)
 

 

British cellist Marie Macleod won the String sections of the BBC Young Musician of the Year and the Royal Over-Seas League, as well as the Bronze Medal in the Shell/ LSO Competition. With her duo partner, pianist Martin Sturfält, Marie regularly gives recitals throughout Britain and Sweden. She has appeared as soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra and regularly gives concerts in venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Barbican, Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall and St. John’s, Smith Square.  Marie has recorded for Swedish radio and her performances have been broadcast on BBC 2, BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. Ms Macleod is a member of the Aronowitz Ensemble, and she was recently selected for the BBC New Generation Artists. In May 2006 she was appointed principal cellist of the Västerås Sinfonietta.
