Radovan Vlatkovic / horn
One of the leading instrumentalists of his generation, Radovan Vlatkovic has
travelled the globe performing extensively as a soloist and popularising the
horn as a recording artist and teacher. Born in Zagreb, he completed his
studies at the Zagreb Academy of Music and the Music Academy in Detmold,
Germany. Vlatkovic is the recipient of many first prizes in international
competitions, including the ARD Competition in Munich in 1983 – the first to
be awarded to a horn player for fourteen years. This led to numerous
invitations to music festivals and venues in Europe, USA, South America,
Japan, Australia. Radovan Vlatkovic has played world-premiere performances
of works by Elliott Carter, Sofia Gubaidulina and Heinz Holliger. In 2008,
he performed the highly-acclaimed premiere Krzysztof Penderecki's Horn
Concerto Winterreise, which was especially composed for him, with the Bremen
Philharmonic Orchestra. Vlatkovic has received the German Critics Award for
several of his recordings, including the Mozart and Strauss Concertos with
the English Chamber Orchestra and Jeffrey Tate. Since 2000, Vlatkovic holds
the Horn Chair "Canon" at the Queen Sofia School in Madrid. He has also been
teaching at the Musikhochschule Zürich.
