TRIO WANDERER / France

Vincent Coq (piano)
Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabedian (violin)
Raphael Pidoux (cello)

May 10, 2005
PASYDY Auditorium, Nicosia

Such fusion of spirit and style is hard to find in a trio. All three artists contribute to the trio's perfect homogeneity. Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabedian's violin is superb, Raphael Pidoux's cello sings freely and Vincent Coq's piano is faultlessly well-rounded and almost symphonic. The Trio stand out at once for their fullness of sound, power and youthful energy.

Trio Wanderer chose their stage-name by paying homage to the Wanderer song cycle of Schubert. Having won first prize for chamber music at the Paris Conservatoire, first prize at the ARD Competition in Munich and the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, their career so far has taken them to many of the world's most prestigious venues provoking acclaim from the public and press alike. Their debut at the Salzburg Festival was so successful that they were immediately re-invited for 2004 and 2006.

Their 14-year-old friendship pervades their music making and adds great depth to the character of their interpretation. On hearing them, one is immediately struck by their extraordinarily sensitive style and their almost telepathic understanding of each other.
