The Moscow Virtuosi was formed in 1979 by the virtuoso violinist Vladimir Spivakov and a group of international prizewinners, soloists and concert masters thus setting the highest performance standard from the very moment of its birth.

A combination of Russian and European values with regards to style, concern for detail, nuance and creative interpretation set the Moscow Virtuosi orchestra apart from many other chamber orchestras. Maestro Spivakov has worked for almost 25 years to make the Moscow Virtuosi one of the best chamber orchestras of the world with a dedicated following of listeners all over the world.

Every year the Moscow Virtuosi gives over 100 concerts in Russia, Europe, the United States and Japan in the most prestigious concert halls, such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Musikverein in Vienna, Royal Festival Hall in London, Champs-Elysees Theatre in Paris, Carnegie Hall in New York and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

Regular participants in international music festivals in Salzburg, Edinburgh, Florence, Lucerne and Gstaad, the Moscow Virtuosi has special links with the International Music Festival in Colmar (France), where Maestro Spivakov is an artistic director. The Moscow Virtuosi has a large discography of different musical styles and periods recorded at BMG/RCA Victor Read Seal Company.

The orchestra’ s conductor for the Cyprus concert, Athens-born conductor Theodor Kurrentsis, has worked with Russia’s finest orchestras, including amongst others, the St Petersburg National Philarmonic Orchestra and the Mariinski Theatre Orchestra. Accompanying the ensemble are Natalia Zagorinskaya (soprano) and Andrzej Beletsk (baritone). The Moscow Virtuosi programme will include Cyprus premieres of works by Kanchelli, Shostakovich and the first Violin Concerto by Cypriot composer Andreas Moustoukis.
