Visual
Arts Programme/PCCA

The Pharos Centre for Contemporary Art was inaugurated by Minister of Education and Culture Dr Pefkios Georgiades in 2005 with an exhibition/installation by Brazilian artist Antonio Manuel.

The Pharos Centre for Contemporary Art aims to provide a contemporary art space where visiting international artists can work and interact with local artists and the local community, as well as create links with international audiences. Through the work of established international artists and curators, the Centre seeks to initiate a new artistic dialogue that will evolve and in turn bring about a greater dialogue within the broader European art context.

The Centre will be presenting several international artists each year working in a variety of contemporary art forms – painting, installations, performance, video art, photography – as well as lectures and discussions. Exhibitions will be in many cases individually curated and accompanied by catalogues published in Greek, English, and Turkish.

The Pharos Centre further aims to cooperate with other centres of contemporary art around the world, bring touring exhibitions to Cyprus and over time build up a permanent collection of its own.
