A retrospective of the life and work of Glenn Gould. Hereafter, synthesizes
an incredible wealth of archival material from various sources, some of it
previously unreleased. Made as if narrated by Gould himself, Hereafter is a
landmark in film-making as well as a fantastic window opened to the world of
one of music's true geniuses, whose magic touches us from beyond the grave.
Includes performances of Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Weber,
Prokofiev, Hindemith...
''Glenn Gould is much more than one of the greatest pianists of all time,
more than a legendary figure. He exists beyond this - a fictional character.
To relate the story of Glenn Gould, the least conventional of all pianists,
in conventional documentary form was unthinkable. I had to invest a new
genre. By opting for a treatment of the subject that was partly fictional,
yet founded on a synthesis of all the musical, literary and philosophical
material available on Gould, I was convinced I would be able to capture the
reality of the genius who made such a mark on my existence and that of a
host of listeners throughout the world. Therein, I hoped they would hear the
echo of their own experience'' Bruno Monsaingeon
