Renowned for his mature, melodic sound and elegant, lyrical style of
writing, guitarist Garrison Fewell has established himself as a distinctive
voice throughout his 30-year career. Critics have called him "one of today's
most personal guitar players" (Boston Phoenix), "an assured stylist with a
strong sense of tradition" (The New Yorker), "a player of virtuosity and
swinging intensity" (UPI), and "refined, passionate, and inspiring" (Guitar
Player). Fewell has performed all over the world in major clubs such as
NYC's Blue Note and Birdland Jazz, and has participated in major jazz
festivals such as Montreux, North Sea, Umbria, Clusone, Copenhagen, Krakow,
Budapest, Cape Verde, and Asuncion, Paraguay. His award-winning recordings
feature artists such as John Tchicai, Fred Hersch, George Cables, Jim
McNeely, Steve LaSpina, Cecil McBee and Roy Campbell Jr. Garrison Fewell has
collaborated with such legendary artists as Benny Golson, Billy Harper,
Herbie Hancock, Don Friedman, Buster Williams, Cameron Brown, Tal Farlow,
Larry Coryell, Cecil Bridgewater, Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, Zbigniew
Namyslowski, Dusko Goykovich, Jimmy Owens and Khan Jamal. An internationally
respected jazz educator, Fewell has been a Professor at Boston?s Berklee
College of Music since 1977 and has given master-classes at more than 40
European conservatories. He has authored three jazz textbooks (his latest
Jazz Improvisation for Guitar - A Melodic Approach is on Berklee Press), and
writes lessons for Guitar Player, Guitar Club, Chitarre and Axe magazines.
Frank Harrison (piano)
Frank Harrison took up the piano at 11, and began playing gigs when he was
15. In 1994, he won the soloist award in the Daily Telegraph Young Jazz
Competition, and in 1996, he won the second place in the Young Jazz Musician
Of The Year. After taking up a scholarship at Berklee School Of Music,
Boston, he returned to England and joined Gilad Atzmon's band. In 2000, they
started the Orient House Ensemble, with whom Frank has recorded four albums
on Enja Records, including BBC Jazz Album Of The Year 2003, Exile. The band
regularly tours Europe, playing at major Jazz and World music festivals.
Frank has also performed with Peter King, Don Weller, Julian Siegel, Alan
Barnes, John Etheridge and Iain Ballamy.
Davide Petrocca (bass)
Davide Petrocca started to play classical guitar by the age of 10, before
switching to acoustic bass when he was 17. After a few years of studying
with private teachers, David dedicated himself mainly to jazz and improvised
music. He had his first professional engagements by the age of 20 with his
brothers Lorenzo and Antonio. Shortly after, he was engaged to play with the
Swiss drummer Charly Antolini and his band for two years. Between 2000 and
2003, he collaborated with Monty Alexander, touring all over Europe, Russia,
New Zealand and the USA and appearing in major festivals and clubs. Petrocca
appears on over 40 recording productions in different styles and directions
between traditional, open and modern music. He is a member of the quartet of
the trumpet player Peer Baierlein.
Stephen Keogh (drums)
Stephen Keogh studied in London, New York, as well as his native Ireland. As
a percussionist, he has appeared with the National Symphony Orchestra of
Ireland, various contemporary music ensembles and a number of visiting jazz
artists, including Sonny Fortune, Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Jimmy Witherspoon,
Pat La Barbera, Louis Stewart and James Moody.
In 1988, he moved to London,
where his career truly took off, with tours and recordings with several
British and American jazz artists, including Stan Tracey, Charles McPherson,
Art Farmer, Jason Rebello, Jean Toussaint and Benny Carter.
Since moving to
Barcelona in 1990, Keogh has appeared all over the world with several
renowned musicians including Johnny Griffin, Lee Konitz, Harrold Land, Peter
King Quartet, Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner, Herb Ellis, Benny Golson and Steve
Grossman. He is a member of the European Jazz Piano Trio led by Bill Charlap,
the Peter King Quartet and he co-leads the Urban Jazz Quintet and the Urban
Jazz Ensemble.
