marks the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s Birthday. The Pharos Arts Foundation
commemorates this important event with a piano recital by Maka Borchashvili.
Born in 1977, Maka Borchashvili was just eleven years old when she made her
debut with Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 2. At the age of fourteen, she
performed Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 and Beethoven's Piano Concertos
Nos. 3 and 5 with the State Symphony Orchestra of her native Tbilisi,
Georgia. Prize-winner in a number of competitions, including the Best Chopin
Interpreter at the State Conservatory competition, The Best Virtuosi of
Chopin Etudes award, and The Best Choice of the Audience Prize at the
Georgian National Competition, Maka Borchashvili was also awarded a
government scholarship in Moscow, at the New Names competition. She attended
the State Conservatory and continued her studies with Prof. Revaz Tavadze.
She also participated in masterclasses organised by the renowned pianist
Liza Leonskaya. An active recitalist, Maka Borchashvili participated in
Helping Hands Charity Recitals in aid of the "Help Those with Cancer
Association”, and in 2009, she performed at St. John's Smith Square in
London, in aid of the Pro-Cancer Research Fund.
