Callas is without question the greatest opera legend of the 20th century.
This unique film offers a rare opportunity to view Callas on French
television, in conversation with great figures such as Francesco Siciliano
and Luchino Visconti. The eternal diva is represented from documentary
sources culled from Europe, this time the programme-length Parisian Sunday
show L'Invitee Du Dimanche hosted by Pierre Desgraupes. It is fascinating
and illuminating to see and hear the diva discuss her art in a
sophisticated, highly philosophical manner during a transitional period in
her career. She was on the verge of filming Pasolini's Medea, contemplating
a stage comeback. Included in the programme are performances of arias from
Il Trovatore, Barber of Siviglia and Norma.
