On occasion of the 1st Pharos Chamber Music Festival, the Trust brought eight outstanding musicians (the Chilingirian Quartet, the Leopold String Trio and Jeremy Menuhin) from Britain to Cyprus. The Chilingirian Quartet has toured 50 countries and has performed in major concert halls throughout the world, recording with EMI, RCA/BMG, Nimbus, Hyperion, Chandos, Conifer and Virgin Records. The Chilingirian Quartet is established as one of the world's most celebrated and widely traveled ensembles. The Chilingirian is Quartet-in-Residence at the Royal College of Music, London, gives concerts every season at the Queen Elizabeth and Wigmore Halls, and has received the Royal Philharmonic Society's coveted Chamber Ensemble Award. The Pharos Trust invited the Chilingirian Quartet some years ago, on occasion of the Quartet's 25th Anniversary celebration. The Leopold String Trio is also established at the forefront of a new generation of chamber music musicians. Formed in 1991 at the Royal Academy of Music, the Trio has won numerous prizes and awards and has toured extensively appearing at major international festivals. They were recently selected for the 2001 'Rising Stars' series and have made several outstanding recordings. Jeremy Menuhin made his New York debut in 1984 as winner of the young Concert Artists' Piano Competition. Soon afterwards, he gave the first in a number of concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic. Since then, he has played with many leading orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, the Orchestre Nationale de France, the Houston Symphony, the Israel Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic and the chamber orchestras of Zurich and Prague as well as the English Chamber Orchestra. Jeremy Menuhin has recorded works by Schubert, Mozart, Debussy, Beethoven and Dvorak for Chandos, EMI and Ades. His recording of Bartok's Sonatas for Violin and Piano with his father, Yehudi Menuhin, was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix du Disque. These outstanding musicians gave memorable concerts in Cyprus, performing works by Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart, Dvorak, and Brahms. During their stay, Levon Chilingirian and Jeremy Menuhin gave master classes to Cypriot musicians.
